As fast as anything can be given to you, it can be taken away. Whether it is a material item, an opportunity, or life itself. We all gain, and we all lose. We all know that there is always a means to an end, but what happens when your means are cut short. Life fucks with us all, but it is life, after all.
Today my community lost, yet another, amazing character. Someone whose smile could brighten a room, literally. Who the first night I met him, he came up to me and introduced himself, “Hi. My name is James Spencer and I got voted Most Attractive in the Class of 2011.” How could you not instantly love someone who was so confident in possibly the most ridiculous greeting ever?
The amount of pain we will anguish in times like these are unspeakable. There is not one thing that will make you feel comfortable, or help you accept what has happened. Not your favorite girl scout cookies, or movie. Every hug and “Let me know if you need to talk,” in fact makes you break down even more. Every gift basket, care package, and card, will constantly remind you of something you just wish to simply forget. Turning back time isn’t an option, but if it were and you only had one time to use it, this would be it.
Every.Little.Thing will remind you of the tragedy. But as we all know, with every action is a reaction. We lost. We learn. It’s life, now solemnly swear to change your approach: don’t take a second of your life for granted. Love the people around you to no end. Make smart choices.
To my community back home: Keep your heads up. As sickening as it may sound, we have been in this dark place plenty. Love each other. Be there for each other.
Rest in the Most Amazing Peace
